Abbas Malakar, Class of 2025

Abbas A Malakar (Kolkata, India) did his BFA in Art History at Kala Bhavana, Visva-Bharati Santiniketan.  An interest in the ideas of democratic public spaces and collaborative practices has led him to the domain of curatorial practices. He believes spaces of art production and exhibition should always be public and as such he has been invested in understanding the dynamics between art and audiences and their difference between art and non-art spaces. As a curator his sole desire has always been to work with artists and storytellers to facilitate their vision the best way possible. He has published articles on Articulate, and most recently worked for Arthshila Santiniketan as a coordinator and organiser for Book Discussion events as part of their Library. Apart from being a conditioned Kyokushin karate-ka, hand-poked tattoo trainee and an obsessive sci-fi reader, he likes to make zines, paint postcards, has a weekly newsletter and keeps a public journal on his Instagram profile.
