Unsilencing, Unnaming, and Institutional Transformation, with Sofía Hernández Chong Cuy and Rolando Vázquez Melken

On January 27, 2021, the Rotterdam institution formerly known as Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art officially has a new name: Kunstinstituut Melly. This name cites not only an artwork by Ken Lum, Melly Shum Hates Her Job (1990), but a renewed social relationship and accountability. Director Sofía Hernández Chong Cuy and sociologist Rolando Vázquez Melken share insights from the renaming process and its contribution to institutional decolonization in the Netherlands and beyond.
