The Artists Roundtable: Julianknxx

The Artists Roundtable, an international forum for leading practitioners, is hosted by Kate Fowle, faculty member of the MA Curatorial programs at the School of Visual Arts in New York City.

Julianknxx’s polyphonic work, rooted in poetry, extends into performance, film, music, and sculpture. Born in Freetown, Sierra Leone, he draws on his personal experiences to broaden perspectives on the history and culture of Africa and its diasporas. Inspired by oral history traditions, his films invite reflection on how we construct local and global narratives, while considering how it feels to exist in liminal spaces. This fall, Julianknxx is performing on November 7 at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. His first institutional solo show, Chorus in Rememory of Flight, opened at the Barbican in London in 2023. His work is in the collection of the Arts Council of England. He is based in London.
