CP Projects Space at the School of Visual Arts is pleased to present Point and Line to Space, curated by MA Curatorial Practice student Mingying Lu. In a fast-paced social environment, efficiency and profit-making progressively dominate people's perceptions of space, the environment, and the world. Point and Line to Space seeks to create an exhibition experience that integrates art and space as a form of conscious emergence. By emphasizing the relationship between artworks and space through a variety of sensory experiences, the exhibition intends to inspire viewers to heighten their consciousness of deep connections between the self, objects, and the commons of space. The exhibition features painting, installation, and video work. Through visuals, light, shadow, body language, and sound, the exhibition merges perception and the spatial surround in a thoroughly immersive way.
The universe is the source of inspiration for Amy Myers's art. In virtually symmetrical compositions, the artist represents the invisible dynamics of the universe, including planetary motions, the movement of bodies, and the collision of atoms. Works by Jingyao Huang combine a fragmented photographic chronicle of her life with a semiotic analysis of the image. She deconstructs and reassembles photographs of the past in an attempt to locate the overlap of time, memory, and experience in present space. Kyoung eun Kang explores intimate family bonds across the chasm of physical distance. The artist uses care packages sent from her mother in Korea in performances and installations, inviting the audience to consider notions of time, love, and distance.
From interior to exterior, body to mind, the situational merger of art and space is made manifest, provoking thought and providing new perspectives.
